Craft shows often showcase local artists. Each artist is assigned a booth for displaying his or her craft. You usually won't have to pay to browse through a craft show, except for parking. Crafts range from stained glass and pottery to wooden toys and hand-woven fabrics.
Many of the shows will have food booths. The food can range from very good to terrible so it might be wise to have some alternatives for lunch just in case.
$0 to $10.00 for admission, plus parking, food and any crafts you might buy. Bring cash and a checkbook if you think you might buy something. Many of the craftspeople at the smaller shows don't accept credit cards.
Shows are often held in parks, at schools or sometimes in private homes. Some of the larger craft shows are held indoors at convention centers and hotel conference rooms. Local cities, towns and organizations often host craft fairs.
Craft shows are usually advertised in the local newspaper and on radio. They are often held in the spring and summertime, and around the winter holidays. You will usually see signs and banners indicating when a craft show is being held. You can contact your local chamber of commerce, tourism office, or parks and recreation department to find out if any crafts shows are scheduled.
Check the weather in advance. Let your date know to dress casually and wear comfortable shoes. Bring sunglasses, hat and sun screen if the show is outside.
